What Is Vietnamese White Coffee

What Is Vietnamese White Coffee?

Many people associate Vietnamese coffee with a strong flavor. For this reason, fans of lattes and lighter coffees tend to ignore this brew entirely. But you don’t have to endure an intense and bitter coffee kick if you want to try Vietnamese-style coffee. Let’s see why this recipe may be just for you.

What is Vietnamese white coffee?

Vietnamese white coffee is most similar to latte because regular milk and condensed milk are much more prevalent than coffee. It is a perfect version for all people who prefer their brew to have a subtle coffee taste.

It’s made with Robusta beans, which are widely grown in Vietnam and it will have a slightly more bitter and stronger taste than lattes that are prepared with Arabica beans.

But don’t worry. That strength and bitterness go incredibly well with conceded milk. It goes perfectly well and it may become your new favorite coffee.

How to make Vietnamese white coffee?

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 tablespoons of Robusta coffee
  • 2-3 tablespoons of condensed milk (adjust to your taste)
  • 4 oz of milk
  • 4 oz of water
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Equipment:

  • A phin filter (If you don’t have one, check out alternative brewing methods).
  • A pot or kettle (for boiling water)
  • A cocktail shaker or a jar (optional for the iced version)

Now there are two ways you can make this coffee. One is quicker while the other requires more time but it takes iced coffee to the next level.

A simple and quick Vietnamese white coffee recipe

  1. Brew the coffee: Vietnamese coffee is often brewed using a small metal drip filter (called a “phin”) placed over a cup. Ground coffee is added to the filter, hot water is poured over the grounds, and the coffee drips slowly into the cup below.
  2. Add milk: After brewing is finished, add condensed milk and milk to the coffee.
  3. Mix it: Stir it all well until milk, conceded milk, and coffee are well combined.
  4. Add ice (Optional): If you want to make iced Vietnamese white coffee, add ice and stir it well once ang

You can drink Vietnamese coffee hot or cold, it is up to your preferences.

In this recipe, the ingredients are the same but the preparation process takes more time. Here is what is different:

  1. While coffee is brewing, add milk, condensed milk, and a few ice cubes to a cocktail shaker or jar. Shake it for 30 seconds to 1 minute. This will create a smooth and creamy texture. Pour the mix into the cup. Clean your cocktail shaker or a jar, you will need it again.
  2. When coffee is brewed, pour it also in a shaker or jar and add a few ice cubes. Give it a shake for 15 to 30 seconds to create a foam and cool down the coffee.
  3. In a glass where your milk and conceded milk are, pour the coffee and ice mix. Do it slowly, and you can use a spoon placed on the top of the mix to make sure you have a beautiful layering. And there you have it. It takes more time, but you will have a smooth, creamy, and stunning Vietnamese white coffee.

Final thoughts

Even though this brew is connected with a strong and powerful coffee taste, Vietnamese white coffee is a perfect variation for people who like to enjoy lattes more than a plain coffee taste.
